Rose treated us like family in her quiet, small cafe. She greeted us when we walked in the door and made small talk. The young waiter brought us water, including a cup with a lid and straw for our 10-month old, she came following behind with a pair of scissors to snip the straw to make it easier for him to drink. It was like having my mom there! When she came to take our order, I told her I didn't feel well since I was pregnant, she helped me pick food off the menu and suggested some peppermint tea (for which she didn't charge us). It's a small menu, like diner food, but it's definitely where locals and tourists eat. The other dining option had a 45-minute wait and seemed to cater to tourists (the host was kind there too, but we needed food fast). We were so happy that we chose Rose's. Good food, great service and big portions. I will try and eat a grizzly burger next time I am up there...maybe a four pounder. Highly recommended Rose's Cafe is hit or miss with service, usually miss unless you get Rose, then you're golden. The lead server always seems stressed out, and that trickles down to the other servers and even into the kitchen. The food is good, typical American food. Prices are Alaska expensive, but not terrible compared to the touristic places in Denali. Donuts are nice and chewy, coffee is perfect to wake you up, Sourdough is delicious. I go here maybe once a month to get my Americana fix. We travel a lot and I do get tired of diners and cafes sometimes. To often everything tastes the same. No imagination or concern for quality. Well this is not the case at Rose's Cafe. Everything matters here! Taste, friendliness, quality and imagination! How about freshly made sourdough carmel doughnuts? And apparently they make sauerkraut pie. We'll have to try that next time. And, yes, there will be a next time even though it is 3654 miles from home. Oh, and don't forget to try the house made salsa. I am completely addicted! Massive Pancakes.... awesome! Big portions and declicious. Service was great.... friendly and timely. ❤
