I just want to give a huge shout out to Buzzy and the crew at Alaska Railroad - not only was my train ride from Anchorage to Denali a fantastic experience but when I forgot an item on board they went above and beyond to help me get it back. Thank you! On time, professional people, delivered services as promised. Wish we had similar services in lower 48. My wife and I spent plenty of time researching our trip to Alaska. Of course we would not have missed the train ride from Anchorage to Denali. The ride itself was great. Smooth and interesting. The disappointment came in 2 areas. First is the trash. I was absolutely horrified to see the dumping along the tracks for the entirety of this trip. Not just washing machines, trash, old tires, trucks, cars, and everything known to man, but also the railroad itself had dumped old spikes, ties with creosote laying in ponds and pools of water. It was totally unbelievable. Disappointment number 2 came with the wild life. I lived in Anchorage for 2 years in the early 70s. Wildlife was everywhere. Now we spent about 16 hours on this trip looking out from the upper deck and all of that time we only seen 1 moose in the distance and 3 scraggly elk. This is not the Alaska that used to be. Used up, contaminated and exploited is all that is left. Shame on Alaska railroad for its part.
